How I Avoided Being a Bag Lady and Began A
Wonderful Second Career...
Here's the true, unabridged story ...
As most of you know, I retired from the Navy to
Even though I’m a physician, I had been working in an unusual field since
1993, well out of my specialty of Emergency Medicine. There’s not much call for my kind of work
in the civilian community. So, I had no idea what I was going to do when I
was forced to retire. You may be sitting there chuckling, but it was real
life anxiety.
For about 2 years before my retirement was due, I had been working with a mentor (not Anne) and although learning a lot, I wasn’t taking any action. It was a mix of joy in learning but frustration and panic because I was not getting anywhere.
The days were speeding by, and I didn’t know what I was going to do.
As these days were darkening, the light shone through. I was away at a conference when my boss sent me an announcement for a position in DC (that’s where I was). I looked it over and then decided to scroll down the page…..at that point, I found what I had created 20 years earlier.
There was a job opening in
I still didn’t believe I would get the job so I made a small attempt at filling out the application and sent it in.
Several weeks later I answered my phone and was told that “everyone knew me and loved me and I had the job”. That was my interview!
I was not going to be a bag lady after all. AND I was would be working with Anne once more.
The Nerves and Fear Did Not Stop There...
...I still had to find a place to live in
I had a few days of leave and contacted a realtor in
That night I was so unsure and afraid when I went to bed – unable to sleep, of course. Something inside told me to say my “gratitudes”. I just kept saying thank you for all the things I was grateful for. Next thing I knew I fell asleep. In the morning I awoke more calm and peaceful than I’ve ever been.
That night Anne drove me around the city and I found the perfect house. Perfect in so many ways – but that’s another story for another time.
From then on, everything went smoothly as long as I remembered to say my
“gratitudes.” My transition was smoother than any in my life which is quite
amazing since retirement is “supposed to be” very stressful. Gratitude eliminated all the stress for me.
After getting settled I was able to learn enough teleseminar and business strategies fairly rapidly so that I could establish a business to spread Anne’s word across the country and even the world (you’ll read more about that in a minute). My goal was to provide everyone the access to her that I was denied by distance for 20 years. With modern technology there’s no reason that anyone can’t learn everything they need to know from Anne!
But that was not enough. I wanted a place where we could all be together in one location on the web and find everything we need or want. I wanted there to be a New Thought community – where like-minded folks can “meet” and talk about anything and everything whenever they wanted.
From all of this Everyday New Thought Community Membership site was born.
Rewind The Clock Back To 1984

Here I was in
I felt so low... I literally HATED myself (and hate is a mighty strong word).
I got so depressed, so devastatingly down in the dumps that in April of 1985 I found myself just putting one foot in front of the other every day.
Somehow I found a civilian friend to “hang out with”
We usually messed around on Wednesday nights. One Wednesday she called me and said “I’m going to this church tonight with two friends. You can come along if you want.” She told me it was a metaphysical church to which I replied “metawhat?” I had no idea what kind of weird thing I was getting into….but I knew I didn’t want to be alone.
That Wednesday was the turning point of my life!
I sat there mesmerized by this woman standing up on the stage. Everything she said resonated with me. It was everything I had believed all my life but had never been able to put into words.
From that point on I was “hooked” and couldn’t get enough of Anne’s teaching. I’d like to be able to give that opportunity to everyone who wants their life to be as phenomenal as mine.

Alone in a Community With NO New Thought Church
During the 1st year I spent with Anne I was like a puppy dog, lapping up whatever she said – I took every class she gave – from “Soul Growth” to “Royalty to Riches” and more….
She let me become involved in the church and for the first time in my adult life, I learned to love something other than medicine and the military. I experienced what life was all about….
Sadly the year was soon over and I had to leave. I loved

If you know Anne, you can imagine how agonizing “Anne Withdrawal” is!
And to make matters worse, I had only begun to study New Thought when I was ripped from the umbilical cord of my mentor…I had tasted the glory of New Thought but was still a definite novice. And now I had no one to help me continue my training. I was burning with desire with no way to further my education.
The books are ok but many are not that easy to comprehend. I didn’t have Anne by my side explaining the concepts, giving me examples and guiding me down this new path…..
There Was So LITTLE Technology In Those Days..
Can you imagine your world without a computer? With no email?
There were computers back then but no internet.
There were no web pages (obviously).
There was no email.
There were phones but no teleseminars, no bridge lines, no massive conference calls.
There was no real way to keep up with my studies. I needed Anne’s prodding.
I began to fade back to my old ways…but I knew that something was missing…and I yearned for it!
I Moved Through The Years Without Tremendous Success…
Time passed….
But there was still some evidence of what I had learned.
I was determined not to be transferred overseas
and made that emphatic declaration. As I was in receipt of orders to
The phone rang one afternoon and it was my boss telling me to tear up those papers because I had been promoted.
That also meant I wouldn’t have to go to
But, it did mean I had to move up the road a year later…at the last minute the house deal fell through. My mother was kind enough to come with me. She entertained the realtor as we traversed a 150 radius looking for a house that was immediately available. I say she entertained him because I just sat in the back seat pouting as the hours went on and we didn’t find anything.
Suddenly, I proclaimed to the world (and the two surprised folks in the front seat):
“I AM NOT GOING
TO MOVE TWICE!”
The realtor had 3 more houses to show us. BUT…they were 36 miles from my new job.
I became more and more discouraged as we ticked off two of the houses – neither of them were even remotely possible options.
I had almost completely given up when we pulled up to the last house he had available….
It was PERFECT……it was unbelievable. It was a model, had cable and everything I needed and wanted (a very big backyard for my kids – two Siberian huskies), close to the Interstate but far enough that it was quiet….AND I could move in the next day – that was vital because my household goods had already been packed and were in the moving van on their way north.
The door cracked open...
Life went on, pretty dull and boring. My life was filled with this and that chaos or crisis. Fortunately, though, I always came out on top! But, I felt incomplete and unhappy….kind of “just existing”. The years went by and I did very little metaphysical study. My life and mind reflected it.
Several years later I stumbled upon a mentoring program – “stumbled” is probably not the right word. I had always been extremely shy and didn’t know how to talk with people. I found “new technology” at Borders Book Store – an audio book on CD!!!
I listened to “How to Win Friends and Influence People” while training for a 50 mile race – and that’s a lot of hours. Then I started looking for other self-development audio programs. I found many different authors and listened to their products but nothing really hit me…I was still comparing everyone to Anne (and no one came anywhere near her, of course).
Eventually I found the magic one for me – this man hit me just right. I bought every one of his courses that I could find. So, at least I was back on the right track. He even had a mentoring program! How cool was that? I joined immediately.
That year long experience brought me back to the New Thought way. I was happier than I’d been in a long time.

Time To Walk The Talk!
Change My
Life or Shut My Mouth!
I was having problems putting his ideas into reality. I was not doing Denials (they were not a part of the program). I was feeling the results of trying to put new timber on a land that hadn’t been cleared. I was feeling the Chemicalization – that happens when you don’t clear out your past beliefs while you’re trying to add new beliefs.
I was also gathering more and more clutter in my house – I was (and still am but not as bad) a pack rat. I remembered a lesson Anne had done once – Clutter’s Last Stand…she was emphatically explaining that the more clutter you had in your life, the more you had in your mind. She was right.
I felt unsuccessful even though I had been studying with this man for about a year. I kept saying to myself that there was still something missing and that there was no reason I shouldn’t be successful.
What was holding me back?
Anne and I had not had much contact over the years between the time zone changes and each of our work schedules. I was too proud to ask for help and the distance wouldn’t have allowed that anyway.
Then I found her Church’s website…. There were replays of some of Anne’s lessons. They were available for download so I took them on my runs and I got back into Anne’s world again. I was so excited I could hardly wait for each new recording to be posted.
Finally I felt ready, emotionally and otherwise, to take a big step forward. But I didn’t know what that step was.
It’s funny, though…For the past several months I
had been talking to my friends about starting the charity that I was working
on. I would always say “it’ll be in
I Finally Broke The Code And Opened The Floodgates
Of What Most People Would Consider
Incredible Success!
As I told you at the
top of this page I was at a seminar in Atlantic
City
Imagine my astonishment
when I realized…..The same exact job was available in San Antonio , Texas
I was floored and
applied for both of these positions….never expecting to get them…after all,
“I wasn’t good enough and certainly didn’t deserve to have such good things
happen to me.” That was a belief system I was continuing to battle.
Within 3 weeks I got a
call from the boss in San Antonio Texas
The wheels began to turn…I was on my way back to
San Antonio
I called Anne and told her. I hadn’t told her I applied for the job
because I didn’t think I was going to get it.
I hoped she would be as happy as I was. I wasn’t sure, but she seemed
to be.
I had to be there within 4 months..retiring,
selling my house, finding a house, etc
I flew to San Antonio
My “Gratitudes” came through when I needed them….
Nothing was going right. I couldn’t find a house at all.
I was getting cold feet. I even called my boss to see if I could withdraw
my retirement request. I didn’t want to leave the comforts of Virginia and my 14 year old house, my 11
years at the job I knew so well and my nearly 30 year Naval career.
That night when I went to bed I was so anxious and nervous I couldn’t
go to sleep. Then it came to me. I hadn’t been showing any gratitude in the
rush of all this. So, I began to say my “gratitudes” – I lay there and
thanked God for everything I could think of until I fell asleep.
The Perfect House….
When I had begun to look at houses on the Internet, I had wondered what
an “outside access” was. It’s a door from a room into the backyard. And the
houses in Texas
The previous night Anne and I had gone around looking for houses since
I wasn’t having any luck with the realtor.
When the realtor showed me the last house Anne and I had found, it was
absolutely perfect! It had everything I wanted in it AND it had FIVE
outside accesses. I settled the contract in just a few
hours. The “Gratitudes” had worked.
HUGE Success #1: A
Solid Income
I would not have to rely just on my retirement. What a relief that was.
This job would allow me a relatively easy job (no learning curve, easy hours,
a 26 vice 120 mile commute) with additional income.
HUGE Success #2:
I Repeated The PROVEN Process
I had been saying for months that I was going to return to
I had a job that wouldn’t require retraining.
The major point to the process was that I added FEELING to the logic. It wasn’t just an affirmation, it was a belief statement with emphasis.
HUGE Success #3:
Financial Stability
Not only did I have the financial stability I had worried about for a few
years but I also had overcome the fear of becoming a “bag lady”!
HUGE Success #4:
An Opportunity To Work With Anne Again
Once my financial future was taken care of, my primary focus of
exhilaration was being able to work with Anne again AND somehow being able to
bring to others what I had been missing for so long. It was as if the lengthy hiatus was over
and I could continue my education.
HUGE Success #5:
A Chance to Have a Life Again
For the previous 14 years of my life I had left for work at 2:30
in the morning driving 60 miles in DC traffic (that was 120 miles a day) and
going to bed about 5 in the afternoon. When I had activities planned, I’d
have to come home, take a nap, get up, do whatever I
needed to do and then go back to bed again. Needless to say, I didn’t have
many outside interests.

I Made a “Mistake” and Mentioned Something
To Anne….
I was happy in my new job and my retirement from the Navy. I had
time to look at different things I was interested in. One of these was an
interest in the Internet. I mentioned to Anne one day that eventually I’d
love to learn HTML and how to do web sites.
Within two weeks, Anne’s webmaster quit. When I answered the phone it was Anne laughing… “Be careful what you wish for, Terrie.” she chuckled. “What are you talking about?” I puzzled.
Then she told me how I was “elected” to be her new webmaster.
In reality, this is the way my life has worked.
HUGE Success #7:
For Some Reason I Opened That E-mail…..
I don’t even know how I got on this email list and I’d deleted
several others about an upcoming telephone call. But for “some reason” I
opened this last one that advertised a $20.00 “preview call” (whatever that
was) for a course on teleseminars (whatever they
were).
Turns out this was a course on how to do teleseminars and on marketing. It was pretty expensive but I decided to go with my intuition and signed up.
What a great move! Conducting teleseminars was our road to happiness. We realized that this was the way to get Anne’s teachings out to other people like me – people who were in areas where there was no New Thought church or no one like Anne teaching nearby. Anne could continue to teach throughout the country (and even the world) without having to travel. People could learn in less time than before. They didn’t have to find a babysitter, pay for gas to drive to a class, take 3 ½ - 4 hours out of their night for a 1 ½ hour class. They could be at home, putting the kids to sleep, or even driving home from work, put an earpiece in and listen to Anne. Then when they had the chance they could listen to a replay on the web.
HUGE Success #8:
“Getting Unstuck, LLC” was born…
On top of that we decided we could
provide more services as a small business. Getting Unstuck, LLC was born and
we started our website. We provided teleseminars
every week for nearly two years…what a supply of audio files we had at our
fingertips.
What knowledge was stashed in our computers.
HUGE Success #9:
“Everyday New Thought Community Membership
Site” came into being…
We realized that people would
welcome a New Thought Community Membership site – a community where they
could be with like-minded people, sharing thoughts and ideas…asking questions
without criticism or taunting. Asking for positive support without worrying
about the naysayers who repeatedly condemn you for

“Wow! Talk about a great way to cure the
driving blues and get a (mega) daily dose of New Thought!” Since I joined the Everyday New Thought community I've been listening at every opportunity to your teleseminars, but, as an on the road sales rep I didn't have much time to sit at a computer - hooked to the web - and listen. After our call last night I began working the "I am loved, I am loving, I am loveable" affirmation as my #1 (most
repeated). Today I received 3 neck/
shoulder massages from 3 different men, a pinch on the cheek (facial) from
another, and requests for dates from still 4 more!!!!! 8 incidences within 6 hours -- Mind you,
we work in a hospital that holds sexual harassment ideology in the
forefront -- Ha!
I've been using the gratitude journal for over a week now - and oh my -
words don't describe just how wonderful and helpful it is to see this pop
up every day on my computer - track my thoughts, and keep me on track!

Thank you for creating this course. It's EXACTLY what I was needing and looking for, as I am a very creative artist and musician who's got a lot of baggage from childhood that was standing in the way of my motivation and creating a great deal of inertia. Just wanted to share with you that I did the Burning Bowl process and was surprised to see that most of the big bad stuff was earlier on in my childhood, not nearly as much in adulthood (though there were some biggies). I wrote and wrote and wrote and put the results on 7 different cards, plus one separate card for just the belief systems part. I live in a small high rise apartment in which every room has a smoke detector, making it impossible to burn papers indoors, so I thought and thought about how to do the burning part-- there's really no place outdoors near my place that I could go-- so here's what I came up with: I cut the cards up into little tiny pieces (affirming that I was 'releasing' all of this as I did it) and I put the pieces in the blender with warm water and put the thing on high and whizzed them into a liquid gray mass of... nothingness! Then I added some bleach powder and whizzed a little longer, just for effect. Finally, I took the blender into the bathroom and poured the whole liquid mess down the toilet, saying 'bye bye' to the past. I'm now working with the gratitude journal, and it's a wonderful thing to be reminded constantly to express gratitude for the things I have and the things that are coming into my field! This feels so right to me, and last night I dreamed very vividly that I was painting a silk scarf: I saw myself applying the resist and then I felt myself (so viscerally) painting the background a pale pink. One of the things I was upset about was my inability to get myself motivated to paint on silk again; I used to sell my hand painted scarves in a local gallery. Thanks again! |

thing but a series of things that took me to my destination.” About a year ago when I first began to take your teleseminars, I was working a 40-hour-a-week job and trying to finish a college degree. I was very weary of the grind and it was affecting both my work and my school. It was also affecting my health and my mental and emotional outlook. I was tired and ate more than I should to keep my energy up, with the consequence that I gained weight. Needing hope and relief, I began reading books on prosperity and self-help through positive thinking and prayer. These did give me hope and groundwork for understanding, but I began getting results when I started attending your teleseminars on prosperity and affirmations. Having a connection with real people in an unstressed environment helped me to move from reading to doing. Within a few months my finances were in better shape, and as of this semester -- my last in the degree program I am in -- I am able to take the semester off from work and concentrate on finishing my classes. I am finally getting enough rest, both physical and mental, and I feel amazingly better. This all happened in a seemingly natural and perfectly explainable way. I didn't win the lottery or get a big inheritance. What I did do was devote time and energy to affirmations, visualization, and giving thanks. Then I began paying attention to the world around me for opportunities and possibilities, and also to my inner intuition on whether the opportunities and possibilities that arose were what I really wanted to do. My success ended up not being a single big thing but a series of things that took me to my destination. The significant thing is that what I ended up with is what I wanted and what I had been asking for. During this time I also needed a new vehicle, or at least a vehicle new to me. My old car, a 1987 Acura which I loved, was giving signs that it had about run its course after a quarter million miles. I began using the techniques I learned through the teleseminars with the goal of getting a blue van. I told my son I needed to buy a vehicle, and he went with me in the Acura to the car lot of a friend. On the way to the lot, the Acura quit running in an un-repairable way. My husband picked us up and we went on to the lot where the sales person showed us six blue vans of different makes and years -- but all blue vans and nothing else! There was a van I liked, but my husband and son said the price was too high. Rather than argue with them, I passed it up. A week later, my husband, knowing that I really needed transportation, pulled unexpectedly into a car lot and we looked around. I found a green van that we both liked, and I bought it on the spot. I paid more for it than for the other van, and it was green rather than blue, but I got my van and I also learned a lesson. When you cast your desires out into the world and possibilities for fulfillment begin to come back to you, you have to be mentally prepared to seize the day if the possibility is truly something you want. I wanted my blue van, but I wasn't mentally prepared to take positive action to claim it when it was clearly presented to me. But the second time around, maybe because my husband was now also up to speed with the van program, when I got a chance I took it. ~Mary M. |
